The Committees discussed the action plan on fulfillment of the EUAA commitments and EUAA agenda, and heard information on development of the transport-logistic potential.
“Providing the geolocation of Georgia, transport sector acquires the particular importance. Besides, development of transport sphere is a key component of the economic development of the country and plays the special role in enhancement of our links with the EU, which in its turn is a vital factor for the EU integration”, - the Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Maka Bochorishvili stated.
It is also important within the EaP format, she added: “According to the transport network investment plan developed by the EU, the financing of the investment projects in the EaP countries is scheduled, which allows the construction and rehabilitation of the roads, railways, ports, airports, as well as logistic centers etc. Naturally, implementation of the Association Agreement is paramount for the application of the opportunities we can enjoy, especially in the direction of legislative harmonization”.
The Deputy-Chair of the Sector Economy Committee, Guram Guramishvili introduced the information on the projects in transport sphere. “Implementation of the transport-logistic infrastructural projects is one of the key tasks for us along with the enhancement of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the region, development of the new transport corridors, digitalization of the transport corridors, prioritization of transport and education, higher qualification in logistic sector, legal approximation with the EU standards and better security and safety of the transport operations”, - he stated.
He overviewed the infrastructural projects, transportation, forwarding, corridors etc. and dwelt on the transit potential of the country, stressing the agreements on civil aviation, navy transport, motor vehicles, railway and transport corridors. He underlined the projects to be accomplished as of August 2022 under the EUAA.
Speaking about road safety, he noted that the National Traffic Safety Strategy for 2021-2025 is being developed and the action plan for 2021-2022. Georgia participates in the expression of interests of the EaP Traffic Safety Observatory announced by the European Commission and the National Bank.
“If we win, Georgia will host the EaP Traffic Safety Observatory”, - he added.
The representative of the Economic Ministry, Erekle Kezherashvili introduced information on EUAA implementation in four directions: road, railway, navy and air transport spheres and legal harmonization in this term. “The Association Agreement envisages certain EU directives and regulations in all spheres in the respective Annex the implementation of which is assumed by Georgia”, - he stated.
As the Chair of the Sector Economy Committee, David Songulashvili noted, the Committee intends to set up the joint Working Group with the Government to eliminate the gaps in the Law on Transport.
