Members of the Parliamentary Factions "European Georgia", "European Georgia - Movement for Freedom" and "European Georgia - Regions" met with the representatives of the Open Society Foundation.
The subject to the meeting was to get acquainted with the personal cases of lifetime appointed Judges of the Supreme Court. Representatives of NGOs provided the MPs with a portfolio of 20 candidates nominated by the High Council of Justice and dwelt upon the cases from their experience as well as their professional qualifications.
Members of the Open Society Foundation have embarked extensive work and thoroughly studied the cases heard by the nominees of the Supreme Court including their financial aspects. Members of European Georgia believe that the judiciary is experiencing a serious crisis as it is governed by a certain group of people, so-called the “Clan” that ensures obedience to the justice system. This is a vicious system that shall be substituted, though we do not expect it to happen until this Government holds the power. Our main goal in this interview process is to belie and evaluate the candidates that have been nominated by the High Council of Justice”, - MP Otar Kakhidze commented.
Parliamentary opposition members: Giorgi Bokeria, Sergo Ratiani, Giorgi Kandelaki and Otar Kakhidze attended the meeting with the representatives of the NGOs.
