The Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze held the meeting with the EU Ambassador, H.E. Carl Hartzell, to discuss the main directions of Georgia's foreign policy.
The ambitious future plan announced by Georgia, which envisages making an official application for EU membership in 2024, was underlined. As noted during the meeting, to achieve this goal, the country will implement certain reforms and fulfill its commitments under the EUAA.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the grave situation in the occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region.
N. Samkharadze thanked the diplomat for the EU's support for Georgia's territorial integrity and the non-recognition policy.
The parties emphasized the role of the EU Mission in the institutional strengthening of the Parliament and discussed the future plans of the Parliament, including the planned electoral reform.
During the meeting, the sides touched upon the ongoing processes in the South Caucasus, the challenges in the Black Sea region and the security issues in general.
Giorgi Khelashvili, First Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, also participated in the meeting with the EU Ambassador.
