The Deputy Chair of the Education and Science Committee, Tamar Taliashvili, participating in the PACE Spring Session in Strasbourg, has been elected by the Assembly as the rapporteur on the resolution - "Youth and Media Motivation".
The member of the Parliament of Georgia expanded on the impact that the contemporary media brings about on the youth in the conditions of the pandemic.
"The role of young people in modern media has changed in the Council of Europe and around the world in general. From a rather passive role, young people tend to play the role of leading actors in modern media today. They receive information, and at the same time, actively create their own informational and creative information media product.
Amid the pandemic, young people have turned to modern media to further alleviate the negative psychosocial state of physical isolation - for expression, maintaining social relationships and making new connections, cognitive, creative and educational activities. In parallel with these processes, according to research, the negative impact of modern media on young people has also increased. The youth have become vulnerable to cases of emotional violence, radicalization, discrimination and addiction to social networks”, - T. Taliashvili highlighted in her speech.
