The Committee has released a statement regarding the current situation in Ukraine, which has been introduced to the media by the Chairman of the Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, at a briefing today.
"We are deeply concerned about the continuing violation of the ceasefire agreement by the Russian Federation in eastern Ukraine, the large-scale mobilization of Russian troops along the Crimean-Ukrainian border and the Kremlin's aggressive rhetoric. Public statements by Russian officials undermining Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its security and stability, are threatening. Georgia and Ukraine are united through a special friendship and strategic partnership and, therefore, we reaffirm Georgia's strong support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity", - Nikoloz Samkharadze stated.
In addition, the Foreign Relations Committee hails the deepening of relations between NATO and Ukraine and upholds the Alliance's increased involvement in the Black Sea region, which it perceives as a guarantee of stability.
According to N. Samkharadze, the current events pose a serious threat not only to Ukraine, but also to the Black Sea region as a whole and to the European security architecture.
"We call on the international community to continue to strongly support Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity against Russian aggression and destructive actions", - N. Samkharadze remarked.
