The meeting of the Chair of Agrarian Issues Committee, Gela Samkharauli with the students of state and private Universities

Gela Samkharauli spoke about legislative activity, priorities and future plans of the Committee. The Committee is particularly active in this convocation as agrarian sector is one of the priorities of the country. He informed students about activity comprising legislative activity and oversight on the executive authority.
The greater part of the population lives in rural areas, though the agricultural share constitutes only 10%. “So, the primary task of the Government is not to really render aid to rural residents but to facilitate to their activity on the legislative level”.
He spoke about the projects by the Committee. “One of the most important decisions was adoption of the law on Agricultural Cooperatives, facilitating to unification of farming economies. It is evidenced with establishment of more than 100 cooperatives covering agriculture and other spheres”.
G. Samkharauli emphasized anti-hail system restoration, melioration enlargement and export facilitation. Universities shall attach attention to qualification of the specialists of agricultural sphere as there is a lack of qualified personnel in this direction. The state annually increases financing and today the agricultural budget constitutes ¾% of the state budget.
He also answered the question. The parties agreed on future cooperation. After the meetings, the students took the family photo and had a tour in the Parliament. It is noteworthy that the society shall have more information about the activity, role and mission of the Parliament, also civil society and citizens shall be involved in legislative activity and various programs.
The meetings with students are regular and deriving from the specification of the Committees, the thematic meetings invitees are state and private University students with bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
