The Resolution unanimously adopted by the EU-Georgia Parliamentary Association Committee
The EU-Georgia PAC has accomplished the 7th sitting.
“European Parliament supports sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within the international recognized borders and non-recognition policy in regards with South Ossetia and Abkhazia. We support peaceful resolution of the conflict. Georgia shall apply various international leverages, including the Geneva discussions. We also support the pragmatic initiative of Georgian Government “Step to better future”, as well as EU programs directed at trust-building between the regions. Unfortunately, Russian Federation keeps violating the cease-fire agreement as assumed”, - the Co-Chair of the PAC, Sajjad Karim stated.
The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, Ketevan Tsikhelashvili spoke about Geneva talks, peaceful resolution of conflicts and Georgian policy towards occupied territories.
She thanked the European colleagues for supporting EU integration, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia and for the Resolution adopted by EP. “I would like to thank you for supporting Georgia’s peace-keeping policy, especially the peacekeeping program “Step to better future” adopted by the Parliament”.
She expressed gratitude to EP for adoption of the Georgia-supportive Resolution. “We hail not only the Resolution but the debates and the discussions of the document where the clear messages have been made. Importance of addressing this challenge not only for Georgia but for European security was clearly outlined. We wish the conflicts to be peacefully solved. Tension is not the interest of either Georgians or Abkhazians and Ossetians residing on the occupied territories or nearby”.
She emphasized Geneva talks: “Russia tries to avoid all obligations assumed under the international agreement. Geneva is the only platform for international involvement. Thus, it is important to maintain this format as it constantly reminds Russia about its obligations”.
The Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Kakha Kuchava spoke about the Committee activity noting environment as challenge not only for Georgia but for the world.
He emphasized the progress achieved, existing challenges, legislative changes and initiatives and enhancement of the Committee oversight function. The attendees spoke about mandatory inspection of vehicles.
“Environmental protection is one of the major challenges for Georgia. EUAA provides a good roadmap to address these challenges”, - he stated.
The EU-Georgia PAC members unanimously adopted the Resolution reflecting important support to Georgia.
