Archil Talakvadze: While climate change is an imminent, immediate challenge for everyone, many of us still feel disconnected from this issue

Chairman of Parliament 27 Mar 2021
Archil Talakvadze: While climate change is an imminent, immediate challenge for everyone, many of us still feel disconnected from this issue

"While climate change is an imminent, immediate challenge for everyone, many of us still feel disconnected from this issue. It is we who must take care of the environment and make decisions that will insure us in the future from the risks posed by climate change, environmental pollution and global warming. This should be accomplished by all citizens together with the government”, - the Speaker stated while talking to the students of the Leadership School.

The meeting dedicated to "Earth Hour" was held online, allowing the participants to discuss climate change, environmental challenges, and ways to address them.

Maia Bitadze, Chairperson of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee and MPs Nodar Turdzeladze, Mariam Lashkhi and Khatia Tsilosani also participated in the discussion together with the Speaker.

The meeting dealt with the most acute issues, including emissions reduction, water resources management, alternative energy sources, forest resources and green environment, waste management and urbanization.

Georgian MPs dwelt on the steps taken by the state in the fight against climate change and spoke about the future plans.

Deputies focused on reducing emissions through more environmentally friendly transport, introducing energy efficiency and using alternative energy sources.

The students posed questions regarding the waste management, natural disasters, urbanization process, incentives for electric vehicles, and regulations on environmental pollution.

"Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized annually for the civilized societies around the world to discuss what has been achieved against climate change and environmental pollution, what are the challenges in this area, and what steps need to be taken in the future. I am proud that each of you is a participant in this global movement", - A.Talakvadze addressed the participants of the Leadership School.
