The Education and Science Committee initiated the pilot program in schools on Parliamentarism
The project on Parliamentarism is piloted in 50 schools countrywide.
The Deputy Education Minister, Tamar Taliashvili addressed the participant pedagogues: “2021 is the jubilee of the Constitution and it is symbolic that the Parliament starts the piloting of a very interesting and important project in schools, envisaging awareness on the Parliament of Georgia, its role and function and history of Parliamentarism. I believe, this project included in the syllabuses for the V-VI and VII grades concerns the establishment of a new textbook “What We Know about Parliament” is equally important for the pedagogues and the pupils. Our task is to assist our pupils in approximation to and enriching their knowledge about the Parliament of Georgia and law-making process, oversight on the execution of the laws, democracy and the rights of the citizens. We hope that this project will be popular in schools and we express gratitude to the Education Ministry, the EU and UNDP for supporting this important initiative”, - she noted.
On May 22-23, the civil education pedagogues from 50 schools successfully passed the training on the new textbook, auxiliary material and teaching methods.
According to the Acting UNDP Resident Representative, Anna Chernyshova widely dwelt on the textbook and underlined the importance of formation of the knowledge on democracy and the role of the Parliament at an early age.
According to the civil education expert, Nino Gvaramia, “This initiative is important in a term that it increases awareness on the Parliament. The children shall be touched at an early age about the role of the Parliament. Within our project, the children of the V-VI grades will be provided with information in a simple manner”.
The idea belongs to the Parliament and is backed by the EU and UNDP.
