The Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee participated in the final ceremony of the project on the Mother Language Day
The First Deputy Chair of the Committee, Givi Chichinadze and the Committee members, Pridon Injia, Ketevan Dumbadze and Rima Beradze participated in the final ceremony of the multi-profile project of the Foreign Affairs Ministry “Maintaining National Identity for the Youth – 2nd and 3rd Generation of Diasporas”.
Providing the global pandemic, the final ceremony of Mother Language Day was held in a remote manner with the participation of the young representatives of the Diaspora.
The President of Georgia, Mme. Salome Zourabichvili and the Foreign Minister, David Zalkaliani addressed the attendees.
G. Chichinadze welcomed the Diasporas engaged in the project and congratulated them on Mother Language Day. According to him, such projects highly contribute to immigration, maintaining of national identity etc. The Committee will always actively be engaged in these events as he stated and thanked the Foreign Ministry and the Minister for this initiative.
The Deputy Foreign Minister, Vladimir Konstantinidi thanked the Committee for the support. He noted the importance of cooperation with the Diasporas and realization of international projects, as well as resolving the problems of the Diasporas and instant response to the challenges.
He expressed particular gratitude to the Chair of the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee, Beka Odisharia for establishing the initiative of the online participation of the Diasporas in the Committee sittings.
The Foreign Ministry, on the occasion of the Mother Language Day, in view of maintenance of the cultural and national identity in Georgian Diasporas, enhancement of their links with the homeland, teaching the Georgian language in the new generations held several similar events.
The ceremony included the competition “Georgian Calligraphy”, aiming at the promotion of the Georgian writing system and calligraphy amongst our compatriots, development of the manuscripts and revelation of the creative skills of the youth.
The participants of the competition – the pupils of the Sunday Schools and other persons concerned residing abroad introduced the brief calligraphic texts and artistic essays, as well as the videos created by the Georgian children residing abroad on Mother Language Day.
The specialists from the Education and Science Ministry and Korneli Kekelidze National Manuscript Center estimated the works.
The ceremony was attended by the representatives of the Presidential Administration and Education Ministry.
In the end, the young representatives of Diasporas enjoyed the virtual tour in the Iakob Gogebashvili House Museum.
