Dimitri Khundadze: Extending the law will allow the Government to manage the crisis efficiently and circumvent possible risks to the country and society

According to the Chair of the Healthcare and Social Issues Committee, Dimitri Khundadze, the Committee is initiating a bill, which is to extend the validity of the Law on Public Health for six months.
"Extending the term of the law does not directly mean that the restrictions will continue and they will definitely be tightened. The extension allows the Government to manage this crisis efficiently and circumvent possible risks to the country and society", - D. Khundadze stated at a briefing today.
Pursuant to him, Georgia, as well as the whole world, is still living in a pandemic regime and virtually no country has been able to cope with this challenge without harm.
"If not for the effective work of the Coordination Council, headed by the Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia, the damage would have been much greater in Georgia. Despite the predicted peak of the second wave, a relatively positive trend has been observed in recent days, which is undoubtedly due to the restrictions imposed by the Government and public tolerance", - D. Khundadze remarked and once again called on everyone to take maximum responsibility, be caretaken of each other's health and help doctors and medical staff in general to protect the health of citizens without undue difficulty, which they sometimes do at the cost of their own lives.
According to the Chairman of the Committee, the recent period confirms that the intervention of the state and the imposition of certain restrictions were timely and relevant. The Law on Public Health allowed the Government to take effective steps. After the expiration of this term (January), it would be difficult to manage the process, for which it became necessary to amend the law and extend its validity for six months.
"We emphasize that this is vital for the country and society. This refers to the law that allows the Government to effectively manage the crisis amid the pandemic. It was this law that allowed the state to circumvent even greater, possible harm. We hope that in the future we will not have to extend the validity of this law, because six months is a reasonable time within which the vaccine will be available in Georgia.
At the same time, with specific restrictions, we will be able to minimize the infection and stop the growing negative trend of virus spread. The state stands by the population and in this difficult situation, does everything possible to reduce the economic risks along with the health and life risks created by the pandemic, so that the we return to the normal rhythm of development as soon as possible", - Dimitri Khundadze elucidated.
