Eka Beselia addresses the Parliament with the legislative initiative related to establishment of the new preferences for the pensioners

The independent MP, Eka Beselia introduced the legislative initiative at the briefing related to new preferences for the pensioners.
“It is exemption from the taxes when they need to appeal to the Court. The leitmotiv of the initiative is that we encounter the high poverty problem in the country achieving the point that makes us think over what we can do for these people who are now in abject need. Their condition is even now aggravated with the pandemic and countering COVID-19, as it is the new challenge that may create the new legal problems related to the legal aid necessary for our citizens and here, the particularly vulnerable groups – the pensioners may face the impediments making impossible for them to appeal to the Court for protection of their rights due to the taxes mandatory for this process in the Courts of all instances and the taxes increase according to the level of the instances”, - she noted.
The Law on Taxes provides the list of the preferences but there are no pensioners enlisted. The preferences shall also apply the pensioners and they shall be exempted from the taxes upon the appeals.
“It will be a human and fair decision as a necessary precondition for our citizens to enjoy the Constitutional right – fair Court. We rely on the surveys of the international organizations like UNICEF, which has published the report mentioning the economic poverty of the people, including the force majeure circumstances conditioning graver economic problems. If today anyone is in an abject need, these are the pensioners with the minor pensions that never meet their needs, especially their need for justice. We have started the development of the bill after we have been addressed by the group of the pensioners appealing to us to develop the bill to protect their rights”, - Eka Beselia noted.
The bill will be registered at the Bureau tomorrow.
