Mariam Kvrivishvili at PACE: Tourism is one of the priority directions for the economic recovery

"Amid pandemic the tourism sector has suffered the most, which accounted for 8% of our country's GDP, therefore, it is one of the priorities of the economic recovery plan", - Mariam Kvrivishvili, Member of the Permanent Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe stated at the plenary session of the Assembly.
According to her, COVID-19 is not only a global pandemic and a public health challenge - it has also severely damaged the global economy.
According to her, one of the priority directions of economic recovery for Georgia is the tourism sector.
"We are witnessing an unprecedented decline in incomes, rising unemployment and weakening of important industries. Like your countries, Georgia's top priority is to contain the pandemic and quickly restore economic stability. As a result of the pandemic, the tourism sector has suffered the most, accounting for 8% of our country's GDP. Therefore, it is one of the priority areas of the economic recovery plan and vaccination plays a crucial role in the strategy of safe and rapid recovery of our economy", - she elucidated.
