Meeting of Nikoloz Samkharadze with Maaike van Koldam

The Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Netherlands to Georgia, H.E. Maaike van Koldam to discuss the further deepening of relations between the two countries and the prospects for future cooperation, including the strengthening of parliamentary relations.

As it was mentioned during the meeting, there has been a positive dynamic in terms of deepening relations between Georgia and the Netherlands from 2019.

During the meeting with the diplomat, the focus was on the resolution adopted by the Parliament on Foreign Policy, which addresses the priorities of Georgia's foreign policy for the next four years and on which the Parliament and the Government of Georgia are working together.

The sides discussed the grave situation in the occupied regions, so-called borderization process, illegal detention of Georgian citizens, Russia’s actions against Georgia.

Dwelling on the security issues of the Black Sea region and the existing challenges, the focus was on greater NATO involvement in the Black Sea region.

The parties also tabled the domestic political issues. The Chairman of the Committee informed the diplomat about the parliamentary agenda, introduced the scheduled electoral reform and noted about the establishment of a Fact-Finding Commission into the October 31, 2020 Parliamentary Elections.
