The Procedural Issues and Rules Committee determining the number of the members of the Fact-Finding Commission and the representative quotas

The Procedural Issues and Rules Committee determining the number of the members of the Fact-Finding Commission and the representative quotas

The Chair, Irakli Kadagishvili elucidated that according to the present reality, the number of the Commission members has been determined with 4 and the proportional quotas determined as follows – 2 members from the Faction “Georgian Dream”, and 2 non-Faction MPs.

According to Giorgi Kakhiani, it is strange to offer to the opposition the leverage of the set-up of the Fact-Finding Commission to answer all the questions. “Against the reality when, even in the legislative term, there are 8 opposition unions in the Parliament, at least 8 mandates shall be envisaged for the opposition but they reject it. I hope, the “Citizens” will join the Commission and we will further increase the number of the members. The doors are open for the opposition, including those remaining in the streets. This position of theirs indicates to the fact that they well realize that all their statements about the fraud elections are forged”, - he stated.

Givi Mikanadze reminded MPs that the Rules of Procedure, since December 2018, allows 50 MPs to raise the question about the set-up of the Fact-Finding Commission but in fact, we witness since November 1 their ungrounded statements about the fraud elections.

Hence, the Georgian Dream raises the initiative to set up the Commission. Besides, the radical opposition refuses to participate in the Commission, which is totally irresponsible. He hoped that all the representatives of the healthy opposition bloc will make the decision to join the Commission. “However, even if other opposition representatives abstain from participation, we shall keep this process and the Commission shall study the issue. It is not necessary to be the member of the Commission, any citizen, observers, local or international, any political subject are welcome to submit the facts and material they possess to the Commission for detailed study”, - he added.

The Committee approved the issue.
