The MP, Irakli Mezurnishvili demands apologies from NDI Georgia Office Director for her statements. He noted that NDI Office Director stated in her public comment that the “US President cannot even detect Georgia on the map”.

He considers that the statement means that the main strategic partner of Georgia, which closely cooperates with our country and resolutely supports our territorial integrity, inviolability of the borders and strongly condemns occupation of our country, does not even know where these borders lie. 

“Unfortunately, willingly or not, this ironic comment facilitates to establishment of the idea that Georgia is the minor country at the extent for the West that it cannot even be found on the map. Such irresponsible statement is particularly offensive for Georgia and for USA, especially by the Director of the organization such is NDI. I remind to the Director of NDI Office that NDI expresses intact support to our country during the last 25 years. Its role is very important for formation and development of the new democratic state of Georgia. Georgia is grateful to the people who were the initiators of support to Georgia – Mrs. Madeleine Albright and Mr. Kenneth Wollack et.al., protecting interests of Georgia”.

According to Mr. Mezurnishvili, against the background of increased partnership between Georgia and USA and Georgian and American soldiers side by side protect peace and security within anti-terrorist coalition, US political leadership makes the decisions vital for Georgia, such cynical statements shall not facilitate to establishment of hostile narrative for our countries. “I call on the NDI Georgia Office Director to publicly apologize for her statement, as such statements serve for the benefit of the enemies of USA and Georgia”.

He noted that this statement, made him at the briefing is not the statement by the Faction Georgian Dream but it is his personal opinion.
