The meeting of Anri Okhanashvili and Irakli Beraia with the representatives of the OSCE/ODIHR Needs Assessment Mission

The meeting of Anri Okhanashvili and Irakli Beraia with the representatives of the OSCE/ODIHR Needs Assessment Mission

The Chair of the Legal Issues Committee, Anri Okhanashvili and the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Irakli Beraia met with the representatives of the OSCE/ODIHR Needs Assessment Mission and introduced the detailed information about the changes to the Election Code, Constitutional Changes etc.

MPs noted the importance of as more as possible international observers for the October Parliamentary Elections.

“Let me underline that the transparent, fair and democratic Parliamentary Elections in October is paramount for the “Georgian Dream” and we do our best for achievement of this goal. We keep close communication with our international partners, international organizations and this meeting was yet another part of this communication”, - A. Okhanashvili noted.

According to him, the ruling team strives to ensure the maximal transparency under the high trust to the Georgian Dream inasmuch as the destructive and criminal groupings will attempt to resort to the dirty methods and hold politically incorrect campaign and try to discredit the ruling party and mislead the society.

“It is their agenda and thus, our task is to appeal to our international partners to at a maximal extent be engaged in this process. The interests of the society require these processes to be transparent and to allow the international observers and organizations to envision the whole picture of the agenda of the criminal opposition groups compared to the agenda of the ruling party. We appealed to the Mission and expressed our will to engage more observers in Georgia. We also expressed our commitment to ensure their safety against COVID-19. We are to undertake the series of the remedies to ensure their safety against the pandemic”, - he added and hoped that the opposition members will also meet with the OSCE/ODIHR Needs Assessment Mission.

“The Mission members, within the visit to Georgia, meet the representatives of the state agencies. The opposition may consider the meeting with the Mission as unnecessary as they considered unnecessary to support the changes to the Constitution and the Election Code. However, we still hope that they will meet the Mission as it is the part of the democracy when the opposition speaks to the international partners regardless of their criminal past”, - A. Okhanashvili stated.

The Mission is to develop the report to overview the pre-election milieu in Georgia, legislative frame and consideration of the ODIHR recommendations regarding the elections.
