Meeting of Working Group with Electoral Reform
The Working Group held another meeting to consider the selection of Deputy Chairmen of the Central Election Commission.
As the majority proposed since the position envisages selection of two deputies, one should be elected on a professional basis, while the other – by the opposition.
As the members of the Working Group elucidated, another meeting will be held on Monday, and further discussion on the issue will continue in the format of Committee hearings.
“Today’s meeting made our positions even closer as the number of disagreed issues was further reduced. Our main starting point is to finish these negotiations as soon as possible and move on to the Committee hearings, where the content issues will continue to be discussed. As for the issue of the Deputy Chairmen of the CEC - we discussed the version that there may be two deputies, one of whom will be elected with more qualifications and professional status, and the other by opposition political groups. There are a lot of complex issues left that need further discussion in the Committee format, so we agreed that there will be issues that we will move to within the Committee hearings, and after the next meeting. It is important that the Georgian Dream will remain committed to the terms of Charles Michel's document, and the CEC shall have deputy chairmen", - Anri Okhanashvili, Chairman of the Legal Issues Committee, stated.
