The Parliamentary Delegation composed of Rati Ionatamishvili and Vano Zardiashvili participates in the 12th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the UN CRPD
The Parliamentary Delegation composed of Rati Ionatamishvili and Vano Zardiashvili participates in the 12th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the UN CRPD on June 11-13 in New York UN Headquarter.
The Convention has been adopted under the Resolution of December 13, 2006 N61/106 and has become effective on May 2, 2008 in the 20th ratification order. The Article 40 of the Convention provides that: “The States Parties shall meet regularly in a Conference of States Parties in order to consider any matter with regard to the implementation of the present Convention”.
The Parliament has ratified the Convention on December 26, 2013. “We find it extremely important to ensure dignified manifestation of Georgia at the CRPD Conference. We intend to hold the high level individual meetings. In 2019, we have the novelties allowing us launching the fundamental reforms for the persons with disabilities in Georgia, namely we have already started development of the National Accessibility Plan, new national Universal Design standards and the official procedures for ratification of the Optional Protocol of the Convention the draft resolution of which has been submitted to the Bureau last week to be considered by the Committees”, - V. Zardiashvili noted adding that: “we strive on accessibility to communication which is one of the key points of the Conference. Thus, international experience is of strategic importance for us”.
The Conference agenda includes:
- Technology, Digitalization and IT for engagement of the persons with disabilities;
- Civic Engagement and the Right on Health;
- Engagement of the persons with disabilities in public life through culture, leisure and sports.
