The meeting of the Agrarian Issues Committee with the Spirits Manufacturers

Media and Society 26 Mar 2021
The meeting of the Agrarian Issues Committee with the Spirits Manufacturers

The Chair of the Committee, Nino Tsilosani met with the representatives of the Spirits manufacturing companies and discussed the progress and challenges of this sphere.

According to her, such meetings are important to inform the entrepreneurs about the legal changes and new legal initiatives and to hear about the problems in the sphere as in legal so in executive terms.

The oversight function of the Committee allows active support to this sphere.

She introduced the drat Food/Forage Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection Code concerning their sphere of production.

The attendees expressed their positions and recommendations aiming to facilitate the solution of the problems, including the most relevant problem is the import of the falsified so-called Georgian wine to the markets of the neighboring countries. This falsified wine is sold as produced in Georgia, with Georgian scripts, which is a significant impediment for Georgian wine-makers.

As N. Tsilosani stated, the production of the spirits takes a significant part in the Georgian economy, especially in export and the Committee is committed to render assistance.

“We will study all the problems and take certain steps for their elimination, including for the protection of Georgian wine from falsification in Russia and Ukraine. We will apply all available mechanisms. Unfortunately, absence of diplomatic relations with Russia complicates this process, though we still have a real chance to communicate with Ukraine and protect the unique nature of Georgian wine”, - she stated.
