The sitting of the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee

Media and Society 28 Apr 2021
The sitting of the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee

At the sitting, presided by the First Deputy Chair, Givi Chichinadze, the Committee heard the report for 2020 and schedule for 2021 by the LEPL Circassian Culture Center, introduced by the Director, Professor Merab Chukhua.

He overviewed the activity of the Center, links with the Caucasian diasporas and other NGOs etc.

The reporter reminded the attendees about the main directions of the Center: promotion of history and culture of Circassia, dialogue between the North Caucasian people and self-identic cultures, enactment of the intellectual resource of Georgia, unification of the scientists and culture figures, as well as the Caucasian Sciences Centers abroad to achieve the result-oriented cooperation in the region.

The modern North Caucasian direction of Georgia is an integral part of the scientific-cultural policy. In this regard, the consistent activities will facilitate the enhancement of the positions of Georgia in the region as a Regional Power.

Since 2011, the Center has undertaken various cultural and scientific events. Within the Georgian-Caucasian dialogue, the Center intends to intensify the relations with the Chechnya, Dagestani, Ingush and Karachays directions.

“Today, we hold a direct dialogue with the Ingush, Circassia, Chechen, Ossetia and Dagestan peoples, which can be further intensified within the Georgian-Caucasian dialogue”, - the reporter noted.

He answered the questions and made elucidations, especially in the educational, cultural and scientific directions.

“It is a very important issue to discuss and we will intensify our considerations”, - G. Chichinadze stated.

The Committee approved the appointment of Irakli Medzmariashvili on the position of Deputy Chair.
