Eka Beselia calling on the Parliament to the rapid and prompt consideration of the bills initiated by her

MP, Eka Beselia appealed to the Parliament to consider the bills initiated by her. At the briefing today, she stressed the bills and noted that they shall be considered within the 9th Term of the Parliament.
“I would like to appeal to the Parliament to accelerate consideration of the bills and first of all, it concerns the new bill on Amnesty, which I intend to submit to the Parliament today. There are many persons in the prisons waiting for certain legal changes but as it seems, this Parliament is not ready to finalize the drug policy. Let’s consider that this is the obligation and the promise left unfulfilled by the Parliament and we encounter the vacuum today after the Ruling of the Constitutional Court annulling certain norms, on the basis of which people are sentenced. It is a real vacuum and a legal problem which cannot be eliminated and requires either replacement of the law, which takes time, or we may resort to the short way I offer – the bill on Amnesty”, - she noted.
The bill is important: “No matter the allegations that it is developed for the pre-election period, no matter what the speculations are but now it is important to fulfill the commitment we have assumed, including me along with the team pledging to the society to solve the problem. It is important for the people serving their sentence for years, including the prisoners who stay in jail with aggregation of the crimes but with an unfair penalty, including those detained for the small amount of drugs. So, I appeal to the Parliament and the Legal Committee to promptly discuss the bill as it is expected by the prisoners and their families”.
She recalled the bills initiated by her suspended in the Committees, including the bill on Child Safety.
It was postponed for several times, the last postponement was in June. “It means that this Parliament never intends to consider this initiative. I have made various statements and sent the letters for consideration of the bill as it has been developed and initiated in cooperation with the NGOs working on child rights. The bill concerns the high index of car accidents claiming the fatalities for the children. This idea is the initiative necessary for protection of the rights of the children, which has already been considered by one Committee but now is suspended at the Legal and Human Rights Committees”.
The bill on judicial reform has also been suspended.
“I address the Parliament to, within the remaining term, resume to this bill concerning the 4th wave of the judicial reform, new procedure of election of the Judges and thus, it is principal for this Parliament because due to the bad changes, the Government has been criticized by the international organizations, including the European Parliament with its last resolution calling on the Parliament to change the law concerning the election of the Judges, and there also were the recommendations by the Venice Commission and other organizations”.
These are the issues with high social interest and they shall be discussed by the Parliament.
