The Gender Equality Council discussing the new concept of gender equality and the Bill on Gender Equality

The Gender Equality Council discussing the new concept of gender equality and the Bill on Gender Equality introduced by the UN Women expert.
The Chair of the Council, Nino Tsilosani noted that the Council will take an active part in gender mainstreaming upon the adoption of various necessary changes.
“The representatives of the UN Women introduced the concept developed in cooperation with the preceding Parliament and the outline about the possible changes to the Law on Gender Equality. We heard the positions by the NGOs and one of the key actors of the process about the necessary changes”, - she stated.
According to her, the Action Plan of the GEC provides the update of the outdated concept.
“The gender equality concept was approved in 2006 and fails to reflect the progressive changes we have already introduced to our legislation and enforcement part. Thus, we believe it necessary to update the concept and as to the changes to the Law on Gender Equality, they are envisaged under the action plans for upcoming years. The adoption of the legal changes implies a long-term process and the Council will start working in this direction within a year”, - she added.
The meeting was organized by the Gender Equality Council and UN Women.
