Meeting of Irakli Beraia with Head of EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia
The Chair of the Defense and Security Committee, Irakli Beraia met with the Head of the EU monitoring Mission in Georgia, Ambassador Marek Schigel to review the security situation in the occupied territories and along the occupation line, the activities of the Monitoring Mission and the main priorities of the Committee.
The Chairman of the Committee and the Head of Mission underlined the importance of cooperation between the Committee and the Mission.
"The role of the EUMM in securing the occupation line and its environs is very important. The Russian Federation still violates the ceasefire agreement, continues “borderization” and illegal detainment of Georgian citizens. Unfortunately, the EU mission lacks the ability to enter the occupied territories and fully implement its mandate. It is important for the EUMM to be able to carry out its activities with full mandate and without restrictions in order to protect human rights and security", - I. Beraia commented after the meeting.
