Meeting of Kakhaber Kutchava with Representatives of Students’ Parliament

Media and Society 06 Apr 2021
Meeting of Kakhaber Kutchava with Representatives of Students’ Parliament

Vice-Speaker, Kakha Kutchava met with members of the Students’ Parliament to dwell on the priority directions of the country's foreign policy and the steps taken by the government in this regard.

The meeting was held in question-answer mode.

The members of the Students’ Parliament were interested in the situation in the region, the policy pursued by the Georgian government for the peaceful development of the country, Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration and relations with the country's strategic partners - the United States and the European Union.

The students' questions also enshrined issues such as the ongoing political processes in the country and the mediation talks between the government and the opposition through the intervention of Christian Danielsson, Personal Representative of the President of the Council of Europe, the ruling team's plans for Georgia to formally apply for EU membership in 2024, the 2020 parliamentary elections and the OSCE/ODIHR EOM final report.

The Vice-Speaker briefed the members of the Students’ Parliament on the package of amendments to the electoral reform initiated in the Parliament, prepared by the working group set up as a result of a memorandum signed between the Georgian Dream and Citizens.

At the end of the meeting, K. Kutchava, in their interest, also briefed the students on the innovative parliamentary oversight mechanisms (thematic inquiry practice and oversight on enforcement of normative acts) introduced during his chairmanship in the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of the Ninth Convocation.
