Online Meeting of Nikoloz Samkharadze with British Colleague

The Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze held the online meeting with his colleague from the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Tom Tugendhat to discuss the current political situation in Georgia, post Parliamentary Elections disagreements and the boycott of the Parliament announced by the opposition.

The meeting focused on the difficult situation in the region, strengthening Russia's position in the South Caucasus and increasing hybrid threats from Russia against Georgia, both in the occupied territories and in other parts of the country.

"The crisis in the country shall be resolved through dialogue. Unrest and destabilization in Georgia, especially amid this situation, is very destructive to the state and brings benefits only to Russia", - the British MP remarked.

According to N. Samkharadze, the British counterpart was also interested in the future plans of the country and foreign policy priorities. As the Georgian MP elucidated, Mr. Tugendhat sees that Georgia is worthy of becoming a full-fledged member of NATO.

The parties agreed on scheduling a joint meeting of the Committees in the near future.

"We agreed to plan a joint meeting of the Committees in the near future, most likely, in an online format. I invited my colleague to Georgia and we agreed that after the pandemic-induced restrictions are lifted, the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will pay a visit to the Parliament of Georgia”, - N. Samkharadze commented.
