Sitting of Regional Policy and Self Government Committee

Media and Society 20 Apr 2021
Sitting of Regional Policy and Self Government Committee

The Committee deliberated the Rejection Letter and the Change N1 to the Financial Agreement (Kutaisi Sewerage) between Georgia and EIB of October 15, 2015, introduced by the Deputy Finance Minister, Giorgi Kakauridze.

The document envisages the allocation of the loan of 100 ml EURO by the EIB to ensure rehabilitation of the sewerage system in Kutaisi.

According to the rapporteur, the Agreement provided the project implementation term of 2016-2020 but due to the certain suspensions related to the tender, the term is extended.

Accordingly, it entailed the change to the Agreement, hence extending the loan transfer term.

According to the rapporteur, after making changes in the financial agreement, the project implementation period will be 2021-2026.

Mzia Giorgobiani, the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, commented on the works envisaged by the financial agreement, noting that within the framework of the project, rehabilitation-construction of 360 km network of Kutaisi sewage system and construction of a new treatment plant are scheduled.

At the meeting, the Committee members expressed their views on the issue. It was noted that the implementation of such an important project should be given more attention, so as not to delay the project again and meet the relevant terms and conditions.

"It is important to be actively involved in overseeing the implementation of the project, because we all have the common objective for the development of our homeland and the well-being of our people. Thank you to the members of the Committee for their involvement and attitude towards the issue”, - Eka Sepashvili, the Chairperson of the meeting and the Deputy Chair of the Committee, stated.

The Committee approved the document to the Plenary.
