Roman Kakulia: specification of economic policy is crucial to allow the society establishing the assessment criteria towards the ruling party and comparing it with other offered visions

Tbilisi hosts the Economic Conference “Georgia and World 2020” attended by MPs, Roman Kakulia, David Songulashvili, Irakli Kovzanadze, Paata Kvizhinadze and Giorgi Begadze.

The Conference is held under the aegis of The Economist Annual Edition “World in 2020” and is held for the second time organized by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.

The Conference is attended by up to 200 delegates, including the world-famous economists, the Professor of Warsaw School of Economics, former Polish Prime Minister, former Finance Minister and the former President of the National Bank, Leszek Balcerowicz.

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia opened the Conference. The 3-panel Conference was attended by the Vice Prime Minister, Regional Development Minister Maia Tskitishvili; Economic Minister Natia Turnava; Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani and Government members, as well as the EU Ambassador Carl Hartzell, international donor organizations, private sector and experts.

The Conference aims at consideration of the progress by Georgia, current challenges and the new opportunities in the global context with participation of various segments of the economic sphere.

The discussions were held on: Economic development model of Georgia – balanced interests between the state and private sector; competitiveness of Georgian economy in a global context; infrastructural development and the role in competitiveness; Georgia at the EU market – achieved progress and existing challenges.

The Chair of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee, Roman Kakulia delivered the speech: “Today, specification of economic policy is crucial to allow the society establishing the assessment criteria towards the ruling party and comparing it with other offered visions. Blitz estimations of economic policy, European vision and current situation are paramount for formation of the reference points".

The expert Leszek Balcerowicz made the indications to more privatization and less state interference; "Increased role of education and innovations. When he indicates to the necessity of the efficiency to be witnessed in competition and the competition shall be totally healthy, these are the clear messages that may serve as the reference points for development of the further plans for the Government”.

The Chair of the EU Integration Committee, David Songulashvili: “It is one of the most important platforms to share the experience of the high-level professionals, to share the recommendations and the achievements and the challenges of Georgia in regards with the world economy”.
