Sitting of Budget and Finance Committee
The Committee, presided by the Chair, Irakli Kovzanadze, deliberated the petition demanding the Committee hearing on the pension-related issues.
Representatives of the "Citizens", Levan Ioseliani, Deputy Chairman of the Parliament and Alexander Elisashvili, Member of Parliament, apply to the Committee to hold a committee hearing since they don’t belong to any faction. According to them, the President of the National Bank, Head of the Social Service Agency, representatives of Liberty Bank and the Association of Banks should be invited to the hearing.
According to I. Kovzanadze, before the Committee received these petitions, Irakli Zarkua, Member of Parliament, Deputy Chairman of the Committee, was already interested in this topic and had started some research on the issue.
As Irakli Zarkua noted, it is important that the opposition is also interested in the issues that really concern our population.
"For reference, I should say that together with my colleagues, we have already started research on this topic for two months. Liberty Bank has been given a certain deadline to distribute pensions, the next step will be to pursue a more open, simplified, transparent, fully balanced policy. In this regard, if the opposition has an interest, they are welcome to join us. It is also important that this topic is not new, the previous Parliament worked with the government and as a result, we suspended fast loans, leading to lowered interest rates. I think there is a reserve to set a more flexible and more balanced percentage for the interests of retirees and to make the terms of service more acceptable”, - I. Zarkua remarked.
According to I. Kovzanadze, since individual deputies do not have the right to convene a Committee hearing of public servants, the Committee should make a relevant decision.
The members of the Committee unanimously endorsed the invitation of the President of the National Bank and the Head of the Social Assistance Service to the Parliament on the above-mentioned issue.
