The meeting of the Majority MPs with the Chair of the Bundestag Committee on Foreign Affairs

Parliamentary majority 07 May 2021

The Majority Leader, Irakli Kobakhidze and the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze met with the Chair of the Bundestag Committee on Foreign Affairs, Norbert Röttgen.

The parties discussed the political processes in Georgia and estimated the democratic reforms. The parties touched upon the situation on the occupied territories of Georgia – Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region and the provocations by Russia.

Speaking about the EU and NATO integration of Georgia, Mr. Röttgen affirmed the support to Georgia. The parties agreed on the necessity for the EU to provide Georgia with more instruments and mechanisms for maximal approximation and integration.

According to the German MP, Germany is ready to raise these issues to the EU agenda and support the aspirations of Georgia.

Speaking about the security issues, the host noted that Georgia is the only country in the region keeping the intact Western aspiration and remaining loyal to its principles for the last decade. According to him, this attitude is highly valued by Germany and after the Parliamentary Elections in Germany, any winning party will maintain this attitude and support to Georgia.
