Shota Khabareli: regulation of sports lessons in the schools will ensure healthier new generations

The First Deputy Chair of the Sports and Youth Issues Committee, Shota Khabareli initiated yet another working meeting on healthy lifestyle within the project of the Education Ministry “New School Model”.

According to him, the recent surveys revealed that 68% of the school children suffer with scoliosis and the diseases entailed with low physical activities, which is in direct connection with unregulated sports lessons in schools.

“Sports lessons are almost annulled in schools or are held in an unqualified manner. There is no training plan or syllabus”, - Sh. Khabareli stated.

The situation requires establishment of the uniform system to regulate the sports syllabuses in schools.

“The program shall be scheduled on monthly basis to serve as the guide for the pedagogues”.

As be believes, existence of sports clubs in schools will facilitate to their physical development.

“As you know, the state allocates 500-GEL voucher per pupil. In the letter addressed to the Minister, I appeal for extra 5% to this amount to be consumed on establishment of the sports clubs in schools, improvement of sports infrastructure, acquisition of sports inventory and formation of the self-governances in schools composed of the sports pedagogues, directors and parents”, - he noted.
