The sitting of the Sports and Youth Issues Committee

Media and Society 23 Apr 2021
The sitting of the Sports and Youth Issues Committee

The Committee heard information about the fulfillment of the audits and issued recommendations by the State Audit Service for 2017-2020, introduced by the Head of the Social Service of the SAS, Zaza Shekiladze.

He introduced the system findings revealed by the audits in the sports federations in 2014-2019 and the issued recommendations.

The SAS has held the audit in the National Wrestling Federation, Rugby Union, Federations of Chess, Football and Basketball, and studied the consumption of the budget assignments by these institutions.

The main emphasis of the audits was made on the procurements, salaries, asset management and gaps of the internal control.

The reporter dwelt on the revealed gaps and violations and introduced the recommendations for addressing these problems.

The Committee members expressed their positions and noted that consideration of the SAS findings and recommendations shall be held together with the federations and the representatives of the Sports Ministry.

The audits revealed certain crimes in the activities by the federations requiring a due response.

The Committee heard the report on the efficiency audit of the sports infrastructure management and mass sports development.

The Chair, Mikheil Kavelashvili estimated the reports: “Our goal is to make sports in Georgia better. Development of sport is important not only for the athletes but for every Georgian citizen as it has a social meaning and economic effect. Sport is of equal importance in development of the country, even advancing other spheres. We shall also consider that the sports infrastructure is almost completely destructed and the stadiums were replaced by the residential blocks. Hence, we have so much to do ahead in this reality. We have started this process and will consider every recommendation and position”, - he added.
