Meeting of Dimitri Khundadze with Ekaterine Tikaradze

Healthcare and Social Issues Committee 25 Jun 2020
Meeting of Dimitri Khundadze with Ekaterine Tikaradze

"Our goal is to provide quality medications to consumers and make it available both geographically and financially", - the Chair of Healthcare and Social Issues Committee, Dimitri Khundadze stated post hoc the meeting with the Minister of Health, Ekaterine Tikaradze.

Pursuant to him, the Parliament has been elaborating on the Changes to the Law on Medicines and Pharmaceutical Activities, which has not been amended since 2009.

"This old law had played its positive role, but it is outdated and fails to tackle the existing challenges. The main goal is to provide our consumers with quality medicine and make it available both geographically and financially. This is a voluminous package of bills. We work with both local experts and experts selected by the World Health Organization. We have both international communication and involvement. This law will be the subject of a wide discussion before it is introduced to the Parliament”, - Dimitri Khundadze remarked.

According to Ekaterine Tikaradze, the Bill on Medicines and Pharmaceutical Activities has been elaborated on since January.

"It is extremely important for our population to benefit from safe medicines from the Georgian market. Price regulations are also important. Today’ working meeting discussed several key details and some of them were reconciled. Both the Regulatory Agency and the Healthcare Committee continue to work. I will also be fully involved in this process. We need to draft a bill of global importance that will serve as the country’s strategy for the next 5-10 years. This Bill has not been submitted to the Parliament yet”, - Ekaterine Tikaradze noted.

The meeting lasted for almost 3 hours.
