The briefing by Mikheil Kavelashvili

Sports Committee 22 May 2020
The briefing by Mikheil Kavelashvili

The Chair of the Sports and Youth Issues Committee, Mikheil Kavelashvili held the briefing to discuss the set-up of the Thematic Inquiry Group on Civic Engagement in the Physical and Sports Activities.

“I would like to inform the society about the sitting held today and approval of the set-up of the Thematic Inquiry Group. As you may know, the thematic inquiry is a very effective instrument of the oversight on the executive authority and the Group will be dedicated to ensure the increased level of physical and sports activities of the population and why it is so important – in regards to the pandemic, and against the absence of the vaccine or the medicine, WHO called on the world that one of the preventive measures is the human immunity, human health and healthy lifestyle. The Committee addresses the organizations, Ministries and municipalities for submission of information to the Committee in this direction. The Committee has already held the surveys and revealed the situation not so positive. 70% of our population lacks the physical movement and the statistic data also reveals that we have high heart-disease and high-weight problem indices. The Group will ensure the milieu for the population providing the physical and sports activities. I also would like to inform the society that we have almost developed the strategy document covering the whole country about the infrastructure necessary for our population”, - he noted.
