The GUAM PA and Baltic Assembly joint international conference in Batumi

Georgia, in capacity of the presiding country of GUAM, hosts the GUAM PA and Baltic Assembly joint international conference in Radisson Blu Batumi Hotel on “GUAM and Baltic States – Partners for Safe and Successful Region”. The 2-day event is dedicated to the various directions of regional cooperation. The participants are: the representatives of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, as well as the Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic countries and the Parliament of Poland.
The Georgian Delegation is represented by: the Head of the Delegation, Mr. Zurab Abashidze (Faction Georgian Dream); David Sakvarelidze (Faction “UNM”) and David Bezhuashvili (Faction “UNM”).
The Chair of GUAM PA, the Deputy Chairman of Georgian Parliament, Mr. Abashidze opened the conference. He spoke about implementation of the obligations assumed by Georgia as presiding the organization and the positive outcomes of GUAM and Baltic Assembly cooperation for the region. Such conferences, he stated, facilitate to further approximation of GUAM states with European structures, states, region and to enhancement of regional security. “The conference aims at facilitation to further approximation of GUAM states with EU. I believe that support of Baltic friends is of utmost importance in this process. The theatre of international relations changes giving way to new opportunities. We express our commitment for enhancement of cooperation”.
He also touched upon the conflicts in the region and noted that the organization supports peaceful resolution of the conflicts on the basis of the international law.
The President of Baltic Assembly; GUAM Secretary General; Deputy-Foreign Minister of Georgia, GUAM National Coordinator; Head of the Azerbaijani Delegation to GUAM PA; Deputy Chairman of Moldovan Parliament, the Member of Moldovan Delegation to GUAM PA and the Deputy-Head of Ukrainian Delegation to GUAM PA also addressed the attendees.
Today, the conference was dedicated to 4 sessions: proactive and intellectual approach to combating organized crime; energy cooperation; investing in regional success and enhancement of cooperation in tourism sphere. The representatives of Batumi Public Service Hall held the presentation introducing services of the PSH. The conference will be accomplished tomorrow.
