The meeting of Ilia Nakashidze with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China
The Vice-Speaker, Ilia Nakashidze held the meeting with the Ambassador of China, H.E. Li Yan in the Embassy. The meeting was very friendly and the parties touched upon close cooperation between the countries in cultural, touristic, educational, historical or trade spheres taking the roots to the historical “Silk Road” period centuries ago.
The tea culture has been developed at the end of the XIX century related to the name of Lao Xing Xiao and the opening of the Xiao Museum. As the historical data reveals, Lao Xing Xiao arrived in Chakvi when being 23 years old in November 1893 and stayed for 30 years. He established the first tea plant orangeries and tea processing plant and his tea in Chakvi was recognized as the best. In 1900, at the world exhibition in Paris, Xiao tea has been awarded the Golden Medal providing “Caucasian Tea is the Best in the World”.
The Chinese Ambassador expressed commitment to facilitate the opening of the Xiao Museum and establishment of Batumi Confucius Institute.
