The meeting of the Speaker, Mr. David Usupashvili with the OSCE Representative of Freedom of Media, Ms. Dunya Miyatovich

The Speaker, Mr. David Usupashvili met with the OSCE Representative on Freedom of Media, Ms. Dunya Miyatovich, visiting Georgia to participate in the 13rd media-conference of South Caucasus organized by OSCE within freedom of media issues.
The parties discussed freedom of media and freedom of expression, activity of the Public Broadcaster, Russian propaganda and cooperation between the Georgian Parliament and OSCE Office on Freedom of Media. According to Ms. Miyatovich, in terms of freedom of media situation in Georgia is satisfactory with the positive trends. Against the background of upcoming Parliamentary elections, it is necessary to provide free media environment. According to her, Russian propaganda is the problem in Georgia as in many other countries.
As Ms. Miyatovich noted, it is inadmissible for media to distribute hatred language, to encourage violence and to call on mutiny.
As noted, the Georgian Parliament and OSCE Office on Freedom of Media practice effective cooperation, for which Mr. Usupashvili expressed his gratitude to Ms. Miyatovich.
