The Vice-Speaker, Kakhaber Kuchava summing up the visit of the Parliamentary Delegation to the USA

“One of the most important issues discussed first of all at the meetings with our American partners was the release of Vazha Gaprindashvili”, - Kakha Kuchava stated at the briefing today.
“We take the opportunity of all formats – bilateral or multilateral – to raise this problem. Naturally, it was the brilliant opportunity to start the meetings in the Congress, Senate or the Research Centers and to appeal to our partners to intensify the pressure on our Northern neighbors to release Vazha Gaprindashvili and I believe, we will soon celebrate the outcomes”.
He summed up the visit as the most successful with politically loaded resuming meetings: “We touched upon all the issues taking place in Georgia. We heard important messages concerning first of all necessity of intensification of Georgia-USA relations, which is already at as strong point as never and we also need to intensify not only military and defense but economic and other directions as well”.
The parties discussed the issues of high political interest for years but the American partners stressed the questions concerning the judicial reform. “They underlined that these four waves are successful. The financial and technical support we enjoy by the USA is the greatest success for our country. The process was unprecedentedly transparent. At last, we have outlined the regulations for the election of the judges and the reform is evaluated with a high positive mark. We admit that the judicial system may contain gaps in every country. We shall keep our efforts with our partners to establish the best practice and to ensure higher standards of our judicial system”.
Mr. Kuchava stated that the American partners expressed their concern regarding the Constitutional changes. “We are do concerned as well to fail transition to this system, though they underline a very important fact that first of all, it is Georgian people to decide on the electoral system. Failure of the Constitutional changes is not the basis for the violent attacks to the institutions. Besides, the free demonstrations shall not go beyond the frameworks and every violent action will always be condemned”.
He stressed that important events for 2020 have been scheduled at the meetings, including the intensification of cooperation and inasmuch 2020 is the electoral year, all the efforts shall be directed to achieve high standards of the elections.
