Working Meeting of Beka Odisharia in Georgian Orthodox Eparchy of Belgium and Netherlands

Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee 20 Feb 2020
Working Meeting of Beka Odisharia in Georgian Orthodox Eparchy of Belgium and Netherlands

As part of his visit to the Kingdom of Belgium, the Chair of the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee, Beka Odisharia held a working meeting with the Head of the Georgian Orthodox Eparchy of Belgium and Netherlands, Archbishop Dositeo to discuss the challenges that the Georgian diasporas abroad encounter, including in Belgium and the Netherlands, and ways to their resolution.

Discussions were held on improving the functionality of Sunday and Parish schools and the state thereto. It was underlined that the existence of these schools guarantees the preservation of national identity among compatriots living abroad.

It was noted at the meeting that with the support of the Governments of the host countries, the Belgian Catholic Church and the Georgian Diaspora, in 2014, the Georgian Cultural Center and the Church of the Ascension with a Sunday School were established. In 2017, Saint Tamar's Christian Orthodox Church together with the Parish School was established in Belgium.

B. Odisharia pledged to provide Sunday and Parish Schools with necessary textbooks and school essentials. The parties agreed to intensify cooperation in funding and promotion of Georgian schools and educational centers abroad.

Today, the Chairman of the Committee participated in the international forum organized by the Georgia Foundation “Diaspora Alliance for Georgia”. The event was held with the support of the Georgian Orthodox Eparchy of Belgium and Netherlands and the Saint Tamar's Christian Orthodox Association in Belgium.
