Irakli Kobakhidze has resigned
The Speaker, Irakli Kobakhidze has resigned. The decision has been made after June 20 developments in Tbilisi and declared after accomplishment of the political council sitting of Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia.
Pursuant to the Rules of Procedure, the Parliament takes note of the resignation of the Speaker at the nearest plenary session and makes a record of the session.
After the resignation, the First Vice-Speaker assumes the position as the Acting Speaker. In the event of termination of the authority of the Speaker ahead of time, the Parliament within the term of 14 days elects the new Speaker in established order.
The Majority, Minority and the non-majority or non-minority Faction, as well as the group of no less than 6 independent MPs are eligible to nominate the candidate for the Speaker.
