Tamar Chugoshvili speaking about the political polarization at the House Democratic Partnership Forum
The First Vice Speaker, Tamar Chugoshvili visits the USA to participate in the House Democratic Partnership Forum.
In her speech, she spoke about the political polarization and emphasized the reasons of political polarization in Georgia, namely Russian disinformation, radical political forces and the part of the media spreading the fabricated information, hatred and aggression.
“Political polarization is a global trend and it is not unique for Georgia only.
More and more countries speak about the political polarization creating unhealthy environment and competition. There are various grounds for polarization in Georgia. On the one hand, we witness the Russian soft power trying to divide the society concerning some of the issues, especially the foreign policy, and on the other hand, we have irresponsible political forces telling the society that elections cannot ensure change of the authority and calling them on to other revolutionary, semi-revolutionary and destructive ways. Naturally, it entails additional polarization in the society. There are the elements in media spreading the aggressive, unethical rhetoric to create additional tension.
Various societies encounter various polarization problems. Everyone agrees that it is a global trend on the one hand, but it also requires to be addressed through cooperation between the political parties. Otherwise, it may pose threat to democratic development of the countries. It was our common aspiration in the hall”, - she commented to media.
