Tamar Chugoshvili: we are the country aspiring to be the full-fledged member of EU and we need a clear message by EU that it is our mutual desire
“We are the country that wants to be completely democratic and the full-fledged member of EU. And we need the EU to have a clear perception and to give a clear message that it is their mutual will as well. We are glad to have excellent opportunity for cooperation and want to witness further enlargement of this cooperation”, - the First Vice Speaker, Tamar Chugoshvili stated at the thematic session “Eastern Partnership – an Agent of Democratic Transformation” in Batumi.
She emphasized the PACE decision on readmission of Russia to the organization.
“Russia, for Georgia, is the occupant occupying 20% of our territories. It means constant threat and risk to our security and in terms of human rights violation of the people residing on these territories. Unfortunately, Russia has been readmitted to the PACE despite of all gross violations against Ukraine and Georgia. Most of the Western European countries opened the door to Russia without any preconditions. The messages we have heard at the PACE is not a good lesson”.
The participants of the session discussed the ways EaP facilitates to effective and democratic capacity building in the partner states and how the efforts have mitigated vulnerability of the society and increased resistance to the threats in the partner states.
