The Majority responds to adoption of the Georgia Supportive Bill by US House of Representatives.
The Bill is a significant message supporting Georgia confirming that Georgia plays the key role in USA foreign policy. “The Bill developed in the Congress underlines US support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, imposes the sanctions to the persons violating human rights on the occupied territories, underlines cooperation in defense and security sphere and enhancement of defense capacity of Georgia, support to our EU and NATO integration, and enhancement of Georgia-USA free trade and trade-economic relations, which is an additional security guarantee for Georgia. It is important that the Bill is supported by the both parties in the Congress and initiated by the Co-Chairs of USA-Georgia Friendship Group along with 23 Congressmen. It is the outcome of the joint efforts of Georgian Government, Parliament and Georgian Embassy to USA and the Parliamentary Delegation during its visit in January lobbied this Bill”, - the Majority Leader, Archil Talakvadze stated at the briefing.
He thanked the American colleagues for intact political support.
The Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Sophio Katsarava stated that the Bill confirms that Georgia plays the key role in USA foreign policy. “It is a powerful and comprehensive Bill supported by the both parties. It reflects all issues vital for Georgia: territorial integrity, independence, grave situation on the occupied territories and unprecedented cooperation in security and defense sphere. It is noteworthy that the Bill provides disinformation and propaganda, as well as threats from Russia and calls on to the Government to submit the report in security part and the strategy in regards with Georgia. The Bill underlines trade-economic cooperation. As everyone may know, if the free trade is concluded with USA, it will bring not only the economic benefits to Georgia but create the additional security guarantees. Such support by USA to Georgia means that Georgia plays the key role in US foreign policy”.
The Deputy Chair of the Foreign Committee, Dimitri Tskitishvili underlined the unanimous support to the Bill in the US House of Representatives. “The Bill is initiated as by the Democrats so by Republicans and was fully supported in the Congress, which is a significant message. The Bill will pass every legislative stage and I believe, will become the Legal Act. Discussions on every stage is important for formation of the international context and conjuncture, which evidently supports Georgia and condemns Russian actions on territory of Georgia”.
